We have a yearly cookie exchange, this year's theme was the 50's. I needed coloring for pink poodle cookies. I got out my oils and discovered they were rancid. Gross! The powder fit the bill with vivid color didn't water down the frosting like a liquid would. The cookies looked fantastic and next year I will not be faced with rancid food coloring. I also bought the black to make records, it did not impart a nasty flavor like the oils can sometimes do. I will buy only the powder from now on.

I was told by a professional baker to use powdered food coloring as it was the only way to go when making colored cakes and french macarons. What a disappointment. I ended up adding almost a tablespoon to my french macaron batter and it was such a pale color, that it wasn't worth adding a whole canister at the price. This isn't the way to go if you want bright vibrant colors.
